South Tyrol Free Software conference 2007
The time has come for chestnuts and wine must in South Tyrol. This year again the time has come also for the South Tyrol Free Software Conference.
The SFScon 2007 will focus on the issue “Free software everywhere, from the world's smallest computer to the biggest”.
The 2006 edition was attended by more than 300 guests. This year like the year before, the conference is aimed to provide decision makers of private and public authorities important informations to make wise choices on ICT infrastructures. The conference will also offer the participants the opportunity to share good practices and learn about the latest news in the sector.
But there is more than that: the SFScon has been organised for everyone interested in Free Software! The conference is open to anybody, as it aims to let people understand the importance of Free Software in the present-day society, which as we all know heavily depends on ICT infrastructures. The conference also represents an opportunity to create a meeting point for experts, end users and everyone interested in the subject.
The SFScon 2007 will take place in November 16th and 17th and feature nationally and internationally renown speakers.
The conference itself will be preceded and followed by other events: “sprints” on Plone and GIS, the FSFE members' meeting and several community meetings.
We are waiting for you in Merano, at the ITC “Franz Kafka” technical school!

Just after the Plone sprint, the SFScon annual conference will begin. This year it will focus on the issue “Free software everywhere, from the world's smallest computer to the biggest”.
Attendance is free and the doors are opened to everyone, who would like to come and join us! We kindly thank all sponsors for having made this possible.
Simultaneous translation in English, German and Italian will be available for all conference events.
The conference program consists of two days.
Friday, 16 is dedicated to economic and public/private institutions decision makers. All guest speakers (all of which are internationally renown) will hold their speeches on this day.
The conference's main subject is “Free software everywhere, from the world's smallest computer to the biggest”.
The speakers will present and describe information on the latest worldwide news in the Free Software sector and tell about good practices and experiences, thus offering participants all the relevant information they need to choose wisely when it comes to IT infrastructures.
One of the most eagerly awaited events in the morning will be the SFSaward prize ceremony: this prize is awarded to those who have significantly contributed in spreading Free Software in South Tyrol.
We are all waiting to know who will be the 2007 winner! LUGBZ's Executive Board is waiting for your proposals. Please write to info@SFScon.it.
The morning of Saturday 17th November will be devoted to speakers’ contributions, whereas the afternoon will be dedicated to workshops. The developers and the community members, coordinated by experts of the sector, meet to elaborate interesting topics linked to the Free Software. The conclusion of the workshops in late afternoon will officially close the SFScon 2007.

In this day, the participants, organised in groups, will record data referring to roads, water courses and other natural elements in the open air. The aim is to produce a free set of data, which may be used for environmental analyses. The Association Open Street Map shall put some GPSs at participants’ disposal; participants are allowed to bring their own equipment.

the same day, Sunday November 18th,
will be held the Free Software Foundation Europe members meeting.
This is an excellent opportunity to meet friends from all around
Europe personally. The meeting has been organised by the association
members' themselves and is described on the FSFE's official web page.
Only FSFE members can participate to this meeting. However FSFE offers all enthusiasts the opportunity to become a “fellow”.
Meeting point: Café Hotel Europa Splendid - from 9.00 to 9.30 am.
The meeting will take place in the meeting room of the Tourist Authority Merano.
19-21.11.2007: SPRINT “FREE GIS”
http://www.sfscon.it/2007/free-gis
From Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st November the software developers of the GIS community meet for the FREE GIS Code Sprint. After the overseas meeting, which was held in Canada from 24th to 27th September, this is the European date for developers and expert users of main GISs available in the GIS Free and Open Source panorama.
The main aim of the sprint is to encourage an interaction between developers working on the same project and between developers and the users, who usually work in different places. This will be the right opportunity to solve both some problems related to the programme’s core, which need greater interactions between developers, and some bugs that were reported by users.
The meeting also aims to promote the interaction between different projects for library and format portability.
19-21.11.2007: SPRINT “FREE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION EUROPE HACKERS”
http://www.sfscon.it/2007/fsfe-fellowship
From Monday 19 to Wednesday, November 21, FSFE hackers will meet to set up a plan to implement the ideas proposed during the fellowship meeting.
Welcome to the SFScon 2007!
